Some ways to get upgraded on flights are first of all use the same airline as much as possible. Airline sights reward their frequent flyers. Second, dress nicely. Finally, if you are in the gate area and you hear that the flight is oversold, be sure to approach the gate agent and tell them that you are available to fly take the next flight.
