Flying Efficiently and Comfortably:

My name is Beth Blair. I am a travel writer and co-founder of the blog thevacationgals. Some packing tips, so you are not over-paying at the airport, are bring your own reading material, bring snacks, and also bring medication.

Reducing Stress When Flying:

Some tips for reducing stress while flying is to first of all show up at the airport early. Give yourself plenty of time to check in, get through security and find your gate. Also make sure the family is well rested and well fed. If you are traveling with the little ones, be sure and bring the stroller to help you get through the airport.

Creative Ways to Spend at Airports:

Some creative ways to spend time during your airport layover is to look for museums. Many airports are starting to offer galleries and places for passengers to spend a little bit of time in between flights. Also if you have children ask them around to see if there is a kids area. Many are appealing to family these days. My favorite is to look for a local restaurant if you have time to eat.

How to Get a Good Seat on a Flight:

My favorite tip for getting a good seat on your next flight is to check seatguru.com. You can check with the aircraft that you are flying and see whether your seat is really a good seat or not. Often times the window seat that you think you are going to have does not even have a window and other times your seat may not recline because it is actually infront of an exit row. But you don't know until you are on the flight. So seatguru is a great option to check your seat before you fly.

Getting Upgraded on Flights:

Some ways to get upgraded on flights are first of all use the same airline as much as possible. Airline sights reward their frequent flyers. Second, dress nicely. If there is an opportunity for an upgrade, a gate agent will be more likely to bump you up if you are dressed nicely. Finally, if you are in the gate area and you hear that the flight is oversold, be sure to approach the gate agent and tell them that you are available to fly take the next flight. And often times they will even give you a bup up to first class.
