Dorse and James Bond movies are my favorites and I grew up watching those. So when I opened this store I wanted it to feel like a boutique that would be in one of those movies.
I am Tiffany Bean. I own Mabel and Zora which is a ladies clothing boutique in the Pearl district in Portland, Oregon. We have been here for 5 years now which is very exciting for us to make 5 years. I have been in retail my whole life. Have worked in a lot of major corporations and small boutiques for other people. And finally decided I should do this for myself. I could see it would be really fun to do it my way.
My husband and I bought and sold the house and used that money to open this store, and we have learned a lot along the way. But it has been just so fulfilling to watch the store become exactly what I imagined it would be. And it has taken enough years to take it to that point but we have kind of, I feel like, we are at the space now where the store is what I had originally envisioned it would mean, and I love it. It is really fun.
I love owning my own business because I am my own boss and the freedom and flexibility involved with that is really amazing. I also love the interaction with people. I get to meet new people everyday. We get involved with all different kinds of events going on in the city. And it is just exciting. You just never know what is going to come with it. It is definitely not a, you know, there is no rhythm. Day by day is not the same thing. And I feel that is really fun to have that change constantly.
