China's railway ministry announced Monday that the prices are set according to two different speeds. The price of second class seats for the journey from Beijing to Shanghai at 300 kilometers per hour is 555 yuan (85.6 U.S. dollars), while the price of the same class on trains which run at 250 kilometers per hour is 410 yuan (63.2 U.S. dollars). The 1,318-km-long high-speed rail line is expected to cut travel time between the metropolises to about five hours, with 90 pairs of bullet trains to run along it per day. Starting on May 11, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail began a one-month trial operation to finalize preparation for commercial operation.
