STORY: IMF CHIEF RACE DATELINE: May 27, 2011 LENGTH: 00:00:50 LOCATION: Washington INTRO The International Monetary Fund says it will publish the names of the candidates seeking to become the organization's next chief by June 17. The French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde has been the front-runner to replace her countryman Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who quit after being charged with attempted rape. PKG Nominations opened on Monday for the top job, which has been left vacant after Strauss-Kahn resigned last week to face sexual assault charges in the U.S. Two candidates have been officially declared in the race so far -- Christine Lagarde and Mexico's central bank chief Agustin Carstens. Lagarde has captured broad support from European countries while Carstens has been backed by some emerging economies. The U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also gave her personal endorsement to Lagarde, though the U.S. is yet to officially back a candidate to lead the IMF.
