(0612 CR M16)INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE DATELINE: June 12, 2011 LENGTH: 00:01:13 VO China has added another 191 items to its national "intangible" cultural heritage list. According to the new list published by the central government, China now considers a total of 1,219 cultural practices nationwide as "intangible" national treasures. The newly selected 191 items include various kinds of traditions such as folk literature, folk custom, acrobatic performance, as well as traditional medicine of ethnic groups. Officials say the items were selected from more than 3,000 candidates by going through a process that included recommendations by local cultural departments, experts' assessments and public reviews. It's the third time that China updates its state-level intangible heritage items list. Earlier in 2006, the central government published the first batch of 518 items on the list, including the Spring Festival, Peking Opera, acupuncture, and Shaolin Kungfu.
