Jordan's King Abdullah II has issued a general amnesty, which will pardon some 4,000 prisoners.
About 1,500 prisoners were released immediately after the amnesty was announced on Thursday. The rest will be set free in batches over the coming days.
The amnesty marks the 12th anniversary of the king's accession and the prime minister said it's a confidence-building measure aimed at improving relations between citizens and the government.
