Camera goes under the hammer for more than a million Euro in Austria. According to Vienna's WestLicht auction house, this makes it the most expensive ever to go on the block.

A vintage Leica O-series photo camera made history on Saturday.

It was sold for a record breaking 1,100,000 million Euros at Vienna's WestLicht auction house after 20 minutes of bidding.

The final bid for the camera smashed pre-auction estimates, which ran between 350,000 to 450,000 Euros.

A WestLicht spokesman said that the buyer was a private collector from Asia who wished to remain anonymous.

According to Westlicht, the Leica O-series which sold at Saturday's auction is one of 25 made in 1923 and is still in working order.
