A minor bomb exploded outside the Delhi High Court in New Delhi on Wednesday. One person was injured. Now security is being ramped up in other areas in northern India.

Extra security was sent to crowded places after a minor blast under the hood of a car outside the Delhi High Court, injuring one person. Eyewitness reports say smoke was coming out of a bag lying on the bonnet of a car.

Police officers were deployed in large numbers at the railway station in Lucknow City.

Passengers had their luggage checked by security officials and sniffer dogs.

[Brij Lal, Special Director-General of Police]:
"All the 32 districts of the state are on high alert. They have been given instructions that sensitive or vulnerable areas such as railway stations, bus stands, high courts and other courts should carry out rigorous checking. We have also told the railways that they should check the stations and trains with the help of sniffer dogs."

Security was also tight at Lucknow High Court.

[Sunil Anand, Lawyer]:
"This is a sad incident and an issue of security. Taking this incident as an example, all the courts in the country including the Supreme Court should get adequate security. It's becoming necessary to deploy security in all such institutions so that work can continue in these organizations."

The news of the blast triggered panic, as some feared it could be linked to those looking to avenge the killing of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
