Hi, I am Jennifer Miner. I am a travel writer and I live in Southern California. When people come to Los Angeles they usually have one or two things in mind. They want to see famous people, they want to go to Disney Land or Universal Studios, Hollywood.

There is plenty of other things to do in Southern California besides the Theme Parks, although the Theme Parks are great for kids. I would recommend trying to explore the environment around you. There is Hiking grounds. We are in Los Angeles right now. This is a State Park. Try to get outside and explore your environment, any part of Southern California is going to be very pretty for that.

There also lots of smaller National monuments, state parks that you can explore. And recently even just in the past couple of years downtown LA, believe it or not, has really taken off. I think its because of the Walt Disney Hall which Frank Gehry designed. It has created the need to have more things to do downtown because now people are going downtown to the Walt Disney Concert Hall to hear the LA (unclear).

Now there is LA Live which is a lot of entertainment. There is going to be a night club scene down there. The LA convention is always hopping. So while downtown LA used to be a wasteland, just it would close down after 5pm. Now it is becoming quiet the hot spot in LA.

Other side of the hill from Los Angeles is Ventura County. People live there. People don't think if it as a vacation destination. But the Channel islands are right there, that is a National Park. There is a Marine Sanctuary, there is a wonderful day trip.
