An explosion at a manufacturing plant owned by Foxconn killed two workers on Friday at 7:00 pm local time in Chengdu—the capital of China's Sichuan province. Sixteen more were injured and rushed to the hospital.

Foxconn is part of Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industries group and is the main manufacturing partner of Apple computers. It produces the popular iPad 2 tablet computer. The factory suspended production while Apple investigated the explosion.

It is not the first time Foxconn has been in the headlines over safety. Last year reports emerged of poor working conditions at factories in southern China, which may have been a factor in the suicides of more than 13 workers.
