(0219 CR M05)TAIWAN EX-LEADER'S WIFE SPARED PRISON DATELINE: Feb. 19, 2011 LENGTH: 00:01:01 PIC/FILE VO Wu Shu-chen, wife of former Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian, has been spared from jail due to her ill health. The 57 year-old Wu, who is paralyzed and wheelchair-bound, arrived at a prison hospital in central Taiwan on Friday. The hospital gave her a four-hour health check-up, and then declined to admit her, saying she was physically unfit to serve her jail term. Accompanied by her family members, Wu then returned to her home at Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan. Prosecutors say that Wu's jail term was unchanged, but was "temporarily suspended". She is still barred from moving home or leaving Taiwan without prior approval. Both Wu and her husband Chen were sentenced to a seventeen and a half years imprisonment last year for embezzlement, taking bribes and money laundering during Chen's tenure as Taiwan leader from 2000 to 2008. Chen started serving his sentence on Dec. 2 last y Powered by www.newslook.com Producer : Xinhua News Agency
