STORY: S KOREA-US MILITARY DRILLS DATELINE: Feb. 28, 2011 LENGTH: 0:00:51 LOCATION: Seoul PKG INTRO South Korea and the United States have kicked off their annual joint military drills amid repeated warnings from Pyongyang. The joint maneuver involves around 200,000 South Koreans and close to 13-thousand U.S. troops. PKG The 11-day drills mainly involve computer simulations, but the joint air, ground and naval training exercises will run through the end of April. South Korean officials said a U.S. aircraft carrier would join one of the two exercises being held. The drills are the two allies' first major joint military exercises since a fatal exchange of fire between the two Koreas last November near their disputed sea border. The allies said the exercises are defensive in nature and aimed at strengthening their readiness against all potential threats. However, Pyongyang vowed to take "resolute military measures" against the military exercises, hours after the drills began. Powered by www.newslook.com Producer : Xinhua News Agency
