China Report has the details. PKG Beijing police have stepped up their efforts to cut down on drunk driving by using special measures. The measures included car-disabling devices - also known as stingers - ,and tear gas. A stinger is a 10-meter-long strip of nails covering two lanes. It is laid on the road to puncture the tires of the runaways. New laws took effect on May 1, stating that anyone caught drunk driving will have their driver's license revoked. Drunk drivers will also need to wait five years to apply for a new license, and face a detention period up to six months under the new law. However, enforcing the new law has brought more risks to police officers, as some drunk drivers try to flee or become violent during the inspections.
