    Volkswagen pickup's demolish 67metre chimney

    by TNR

In a world first, the steel chimney of a disused brewery in reading, standing almost the height of Westminster Abbey was permanently decommissioned by pick-up trucks. Four new Volkswagen Amarok pick-ups pulled it to the ground - using only four x 200m lengths of rope.

At 67 metres high and weighing around 140 tonnes, the scheduled decommission was a spectacular sight. The chimney would normally have been demolished using a 40 tonne excavator, but after months of careful planning from structural engineers and demolition experts EDS, the new Volkswagen Amarok was given the opportunity to be the first pick-up to attempt such a task.
