Interview with Pioneering Ophthalmologist Dr. Thomas John

Eminent corneal specialist Dr. Thomas John is credited with the design of nine surgical instruments. He was awarded a United States patent for developing the eye aspiration device and method. He also contributed his expertise to the no-stitch corneal transplant procedure, which leaves no corneal wounds or sutures. Dr. John has lectured at the local, national and international levels and has presented new surgical techniques that have won prizes from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Association of Ophthalmology, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. He also served on various editorial boards, wrote for industry publications, and authored 43 instructional courses. Dr. John won one of only two clinical cornea surgery fellowships at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, having earned his MD, bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore and his bachelor of science and PUC from the University of Madras. He is licensed to practice in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, New York, and Pennsylvania. He has been lauded for his work by Chicago’s Top Doctors, America’s Top Doctors, and America’s Top Ophthalmologists.
