(0411 CR M05)TOUGHER BREEDING SUPERVISION DATELINE: April 11, 2011 LENGTH: 00:00:58 VO China vows to intensify supervision on quality and safety of animal breeding and meat processing. According to the Ministry of Agriculture Sunday, the move is in the wake of pork contamination scandal. The ministry orders a crackdown on illegal feed additives such as clenbuterol and urges enhanced quality supervision during the process of slaughter, sale, transport and stock in major pig-breeding areas. It also calls on local pig-raisers to promote mass breeding to transform the development mode of animal breeding. Local authorities are also asked to take precautions against imported animal diseases. Clenbuterol is fed to pigs to stop them from accumulating fat. It is banned as pig feed in China because it is poisonous to humans. However, the fat-burning drug was found in the products of a subsidiary of the country's largest meat producer. The scandal was exposed on March 15. Powered by www.newslook.com Producer : Xinhua News Agency
