Let’s face it family our phones, tablets and laptops have become like our third arm… They’re indispensable. So when 18-year-old Mark Bao returned to his dorm at Bentley University in Massachusetts and realizing his precious laptop had been stolen…it could’ve been cause for major panic…. But Bao didn’t freak out. Granted a macbook pro costs a couple of grand and is replaceable…. but what about all his documents, photos and important info inside… Well Bao took the theft in stride and even after reporting the incident to the campus police, with no arrests…the student decided to become a digital detective and go Columbo! Step one, Bao remembered that he had his laptop’s data backed up with a service that allows the account holder to see recent activity on their computer no matter the location. Step two, Bao could see that the thief was taking pictures inside the Apple computers Photo Booth application and shooting video of his dancing… And finally, Bao could see that the man was using facebook….and thus identifying and tracking down the perpetrator, the student turned in all the evidence to campus police. Well the next day, Mark Bao was reunited with his laptop and was even sent a message on Facebook from the robber with his regrets to which the 18 year old replied I don’t hold grudges.
