Shen Yun Performing Arts is currently moving through Canada. The New York-based Chinese classical dance company has just finished shows at Calgary’s Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (on Tuesday night 7pm), and is preparing to move on to Vancouver this Friday. Our correspondent was in Calgary this week, and brings us this report.

    [Robyn Fox, Gymnastics Instructor]:
    “I love it.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts' dancers left an impression on audience members in Calgary, Canada.

    [Robyn Fox, Gymnastics Instructor]:
“Lot’s of people can look at flips and say ‘wow, that’s so cool,’ but I can look at a flip and I hear them making no sound whatsoever when they land on the stage so I know they have ultimate control. Their extension and the fact that they can perform and act while they’re doing acrobatics, it’s awesome.”

    [Jackie Brown, Author]:
“Oh it was so beautiful, so amazing. I just loved the flow of the silk and precision of the dancers and I loved the stories and I loved how it went through the centuries from the old to modern times.”

Author and artist Mr. Huggett is now an avid fan of Shen Yun.

    [Mr. Huggett, Artist, Author]:
“Well the first thing that struck me was the colors. The colors were phenomenal. It’s almost indescribable. It was a cornucopia of color.”

One graphic designer enjoyed the digital backdrops.

    [Yulia Rudko, Graphic Designer]:
“The transformation from screen into dancers coming out, that was done very well. I felt that part worked so well. And coloring and light, when the dancers were against the backdrop, it felt like almost alive.”

[Ed Nowicki, Professor of Environmental and Electrical Engineering]:
“I feel very moved. It’s a lovely show, tremendous spirit, joy of life, hope all the things that we need in the world today.”
