Based on the concept of "Music being the universal language", the first-ever edition of the Chevrolet Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) has been formulated to recognise and acknowledge Indian music and musicians. In addition to the ten non-film and 11 film music categories, there will be an award for the Best Anti-Piracy Initiative. GIMA received 940 entries including 223 albums.
