The Dubai International Horse Fair is considered by many as the finest equestrian event in the Middle East. Our correspondent in Dubai gives us the lowdown on the on the seventh Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship. Let's take a look.
Dubai is hosting its International Horse Fair, a three-day event showcasing the latest in equestrian sport and horse breeding in the Middle East.
Alongside the exhibition is the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship (DIAHC). With a prize money of 4 million U.S. Dollar, the best of purebred Arabian is on display.
We spoke to Teresa De Borbon, one of the panel judges.
[Teresa De Borbon, Spanish Judge]:
"When I judge the horses I look at all. First they must make the impression they are a good "arab", that is the first thing. Then afterwards I look at the conformation, the movement, and body, legs. But the first thing, most important is the first impression, he must have type."
Features such as riding shows, a horse auction, an equine art gallery and leading stud farms are amongst the 150 plus exhibitors.
[Bill Greenwood, Managing Director, Racewood Ltd.]:
"Here we have today a full top-of-the-range race horse simulator and it is designed for training jockeys. And it looks at their balance, their physical....you know, it is actually extremely hard work riding a horse. Most normal, non-jockey people can only manage a minute on this. This product feels like you are on a race horse, so it is extremely fast and extremely hard work."
Over eight thousand visitors have gathered here from around the world, attracting the largest gathering of royalty.
