Discovery astronauts get their second spacewalk under way. Steve Bowen and Alvin Drew have embarked on their final spacewalk to attend to various maintenance assignments on the International Space Station.

The second spacewalk for Space shuttle Discovery's astronauts Steve Bowen and Alvin Drew finally got under way after a leak in Bowen's spacesuit briefly delayed the mission.

The spacewalk is scheduled to last six-and-a-half hours while Bowen and Drew carry out necessary maintenance on the International Space Station.

The Discovery is on its 39th and final mission from the Kennedy Space Center and will spend about a week at the Space Station.

NASA's 30-year shuttle program will come to an end in about six months due to high operating costs.

But sister ships Endeavour and Atlantis are expected to make their final flights before its termination.

The U.S. now wants to concentrate on developing spaceships which will travel to the moon and other destinations beyond the space station's orbit.
