More than a ton of ivory tusks and rhinoceros horns were seized by Thai Customs officers in Bangkok. The shipment originated in Nigeria.
Thai customs officials have seized 1.3 tons of ivory tusks and Rhinoceros horns, originally from Africa.
The shipment was worth around 1.6 million U.S. dollars.
Officials said the shipment from Nigeria was seized on Wednesday.
The 118 pieces of ivory tusks and three rhinoceros horns were falsely declared as craft works.
[Anuchart Prayoonthong, Director of Customs, Suvarnabhumi Airport]:
"The smuggling is always more frequent during this time of year. I think it's because of the dry season where they send (the ivory) from. It is like this every year until around May, then they stop from June."
Ivory trade and transport are banned under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
