Last October, a toxic sludge spill from an aluminium plant in western Hungary claimed nine lives.Travelling at speeds of 60 kilometers an hour, the red slurry flooded several villages. Those affected were promised help, but so far little has been forthcoming. Most are still in emergency accommodation, while the aluminium factory responsible for the disaster resumed production long ago. Meanwhile, there is evidence of heavy metal contamination in rivers in the area.
