Wildfires burning in Western Australia have reportedly destroyed several homes.

Television footage taken by helicopter showed several houses ablaze on Sunday near the state capital Perth.

Fire authority spokesman Rick Tyers said about 100 people were told to evacuate their homes as authorities tried to contain the blaze.

The fires started Saturday night and had scorched about 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of forest land by Sunday.

The state Fire and Emergency Services Authority said it had reports of homes lost in the fire but could not yet confirm the number.

So far there have been no reports of any injuries.
