Startups: Women Lead the Way | Made in Germany

There are still relatively few women in management positions when it comes to the high-tech sector. Even though an increasing number of women study science subjects or choose to work in the biotech or medical engineering fields, they rarely serve in leading roles - especially not as the CEO. We pay a visit to two women who founded their own companies. Our first stop is the technology park in Halle. Two years ago, Monika Lelonek founded her own company there called SmartMembranes. She and her employees produce customized membrane filtration accessories, for items like chips or sensors. Most of Lelonek's colleagues in the industry are men, but she didn't let that keep her from starting out on her own. Katja Richter is also a female entrepreneur; six years ago, she started her own laboratory that produces the raw material chitosan for the pharmaceutical industry.
