India Steps Up Security for 62nd Republic Day

Police tighten security on India's 62nd Republic Day in several cities across the country. In New Delhi, police personnel were seen conducting regular patrols around the city and searching vehicles.

Paramilitary troops along with local police were deployed at many locations across India on its 62nd Republic Day on Wednesday.

Armed contingents have been stationed at every corner of New Delhi. Personnel conducted regular patrols around the city.

Meanwhile in Srinagar City, a separatist leader called for a shutdown on Republic day to oppose federal opposition party from hoisting the Indian flag in Srinagar.

Large number of troops from the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force were also deployed for the entire day at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, and at the state borders.

Various districts in the state have also been put under heavy security measures with locals and vehicles being thoroughly searched by security forces.

Meanwhile, in Siliguri, in the country's state of West Bengal, police stepped up vigil around railway stations, bus stations and important buildings.

Security has also been increase along the border with Bangladesh.

Various militant organizations usually target government installations or crowded public places around India's Republic Day.
