Susan Lewis, a former dancer and dance teacher, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts in Raleigh, North Carolina over the weekend.

[Susan Lewis, Former Dancer & Dance Teacher]:
“They are all very, very well trained. You can tell their arabesques, their extensions, their jumps, incredible.”

As a former dancer, she says she knows the effort Shen Yun’s dancers must put in.

[Susan Lewis, Former Dancer & Dance Teacher]:
“Just before the intermission they were going in to splits. Then coming up. Coming back in to splits and coming up. And then just the strength, to get through the beginning of a piece is great, but normally you put all your big jumps then, but they landed with the big jumps, I mean, they kind of built up the energy so by the end it was incredible. You were watching them, I could feel, even though I wasn’t doing it, I could feel their legs burning, you know what I’m saying. If you’ve ever danced before you know what it takes.”

Dick Raymond is the owner and director of Just Dance, a ballroom dancing studio just outside of Raleigh. He started dancing in the mid 1960s.

    [Dick Raymond, Ballroom Dancer]:
“It’s absolutely breathtaking. The discipline is beautiful. The unity is beautiful. The costumes are gorgeous.”

His wife, Karen, liked the depth to the performance.

    [Karen Raymond, Ballroom Dancer]:
“The journey… To truth. Truth within yourself and life.”
