After news spread around the world last year of the UK’s Lisa Courtney’s huge Pokemon collection, Mitsugu Kikai (25) from Tokyo, Japan, contacted Guinness World Records to have his collection of Super Mario Memorabilia counted (5,400 individual items).

It comes as the results of a poll conducted by Guinness World Records to find the Best Videogame Character of All Time, published on 20th January 2011, in the new 2011 Gamers Edition book. Over 13,000 gaming fans voted and, in the end, of the top 50 characters there was only one winner, Mario, with over 10% of the vote.

Global authority on record breaking, Guinness World Records 2011 Gamers Edition includes a fascinating array of new record holders from all walks of life. The book demonstrates the extent to which gaming is being embraced by people of all ages, male and female, defeating stereotypes of the typical gamer.
