Winter weather is being welcomed differently across India today. Thick fog is causing some disruption to air travel in eastern India. Flights have been rescheduled due to poor visibility. Meanwhile in the north, people are enjoying the season's second snowfall. Here's more on the story.
Winter weather has brought both woes and joy to different places in India.
While thick fog disrupted flights in eastern India, people in the north were happy with the season's second snowfall.
Heavy fog disrupted air traffic on Friday at the airport in West Bengal's Dum Dum City.
Early morning flights, both international and domestic, failed to take off due to poor visibility.
[Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, Airport Employee]:
"The fog is so thick that the pilot can't see properly. The visibility is extremely poor. Both international and domestic flights are scheduled for departure only after 9 am."
Meanwhile in Shimla, located in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, snowfall brought cheer to tourists and hotel owners. The turnout of visitors over the next couple of weeks is expected to increase.
[Surender, Travel Agent]:
"This snowfall is very good for locals and people in the hotel and travel business here. We expect to receive more snowfall for the next 15 days."
Skiing, snowboarding, sledging, and snow biking are some of the activities tourists have been enjoying in Shimla.
