David Arquette has reportedly checked into a rehab clinic in Los Angeles to seek treatment for alcohol issues.

It is thought that the Scream actor has been drinking heavily since splitting from his wife of ten years, Courteney Cox, in October.

In the months following the separation, David called Howard Stern's US radio show and spoke unusually openly about the breakdown of his marriage to Friends star Courteney before chatting about a new relationship he'd had with another woman since the split.

Meanwhile, in an interview before Christmas, 39-year-old David said: "Everbody is worried and concerned about me. I've been drinking a lot because I'm heartbroken. It's really a personal, traumatic thing."

David and Courteney, who married in 1999 and have a six-year-old daughter together called Coco, insist they are undergoing a period of trial separation rather than divorcing.
