Another round of snowstorms hit Inner Mongolia and the Xinjiang region in northwest China Tuesday, causing roadblocks and killing livestock.

In Zhalute County in northeast Inner Mongolia, roads were buried under thick snow and more than 4,000 herdsmen were stranded in their homes.

Temperatures in the region plunged to minus 27 degrees Fahrenheit at night, killing most of the livestock.

[Local Herdsman]:
"The houses are all buried under the snow, we cannot even open the door. The cattle are all buried under the snow."

Heavy snow and strong winds have caused chaos across much of Xinjiang's western region since Sunday, with as much as five feet of snow in the mountains.

The snowfall began in northeast Heilongjiang Province last Friday and continued to block major roads in the provincial capital Harbin, trapping over 1,000 people.

According to the forecast from the National Meteorological Center, a new cold wave will affect most of north and northwest China in the next three days.
