A late goal from Peter Crouch was the only positive as England crashed to a 2-1 defeat to France in a friendly at Wembley.

Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena put the visitors 2-0 up before substitute Crouch pulled one back in the 86th minute with a superb volley seconds after coming on.

The opening goal after 16 minutes was a gem, with Florent Malouda and Benzema combining superbly with an exchange of passes on the left side of the penalty area before the striker rifled the ball home at the near post.

The second also illustrated France's ease on the ball and their superior passing, with Bacary Sagna crossing for Valbuena to volley past keeper Ben Foster after 56 minutes.
