A 300 mile highway between the Indian towns of Leh and Manali has been closed.

Authorities say snowfall on the high Himalayan terrain is too risky for drivers due to the threat of landslides.

Every year the road is closed during the month of November and opens the following October.

However, a separate road between the town Kilong and Manali will remain open until snowfall arrives in the region.
