Giant Rooney to be set on fire

A massive replica of the footballer Wayne Rooney will be set alight in Kent on Saturday to celebrate Bonfire Night.

Edenbridge Bonfire Society say that they hold "no malice" towards the England and Manchester United striker, who is currently suffering from an ankle injury.

It is a sign of how unpopular Wayne Rooney has become after a poor World Cup was quickly followed by allegations regarding his private life. He then negotiated a huge contract from his club Manchester United after initially saying he would leave.

The 49 ft creation also has 'Shrek ears' to mock Rooney's likeness to the animated figure.

Over the past few years, the society has burned a number of unpopular celebrities including Jordan, Jonathan Ross, James Hewitt and Saddam Hussein.

Tickets are still available to watch Rooney go up in smoke.
