David Beckham 'hopes' to be a US citizen

English footballer David Beckham says "it would be nice" to be a US citizen as his family is happy there.

The Beckhams moved to LA in 2007, when David was signed by L.A Galaxy.

When asked by the Los Angeles Times whether he would like to be a permanent US resident, he replied:

"I hope so, one day. It would be nice.

"As long as they continue to be happy here, my wife's happy here, then we plan on staying."

Meanwhile, Beckham is playing another season with LA Galaxy and wants to prove his dedication to his American soccer team by winning big.

"There's always a satisfaction when you prove people wrong, I've been able to do that over the years. Yeah it was great winning FA Cups, Champions League, playing in World Cups, winning La Liga.

"But now I'm playing in a MLS team and the MLS Cup is the biggest thing in soccer in this country. So it's an exciting prospect," he said.
