Heroes Day honors Indonesia’s heroes. It is held in the middle of the carnival now underway at Jakarta's Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park).

About 3,000 people from 13 provinces are there to honor the nation’s heroes.

Figures of Indonesian heroes and their troops along with traditional costumes and weapons are on display.

[Ade F. Meyliala, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah]:
"Our target actually is to preserve the traditional culture of Indonesia. We also hold this event as our moral responsibility in providing knowledge to society.”

Heroes Day is held every November 10 to commemorate heavy fighting between Indonesian nationalist militias and British Allied forces at Surabaya, East Java on November 10, 1945.

Artwork, photographs, theatrical performances and cultural seminars are all featured during the carnival that ends on November 14.
