    Berlusconi makes gay 'joke'

    by ODN

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has dismissed opposition calls to resign over the latest scandal over girls and parties to hit his government and said it was better to like beautiful women than to be gay.

Berlusconi's comments about homosexuality drew immediate condemnation from gay rights groups.

Speaking at a motorcycle industry show in Milan, Berlusconi refused to apologise over his fondness for young women and denied doing anything improper, after the case of a 17-year-old girl known as Ruby filled Italian newspapers with fresh reports of girls and lavish parties at his private residence near Milan.

"As always, I work without interruption and if occasionally I happen to look a beautiful girl in the face, it's better to like beautiful girls than to be gay," he said.
