There is an Oscar buzz surrounding The Kids Are All Right, which has already scooped a Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival.
The film, co-written by Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg, shows a snapshot of a contemporary lesbian family (Julianne Moore and Annette Bening) whose lives are turned upside down when their children contact their biological father (Mark Ruffalo).
Cholodenko, who also directed the film, says she is thrilled at how well it has been received, saying: "It's great, it's what you hope for".
Cholodenko also acclaims having the right cast to the success of the film.
She said: "It's a character drama, a comedy-drama, and it was really important that those characters were represented by the right actors."
The Kids Are All Right is out in cinemas now.
