Convicted Mumbai Terrorist Appeals Death Sentence

The lone surviving gunman from the Mumbai terror attacks is appealing the death penalty today. The 2008 attacks left more than 160 people dead.

On Monday, the sole surviving militant involved in the Mumbai terror attacks of November 2008 appealed his being sentenced to death.

Pakistani citizen Mohammad Ajmal Kasab was condemned to death in May by a special court in Mumbai.

A judge imposed the death penalty after Kasab was accused of waging war against India, murder, conspiracy to murder, and participating in an act of terror.

166 people were killed during the attacks.

Tight security was mounted around the court building, annoying some locals.

[Sandhya, Local Resident]:
"The Supreme Court appeal is still pending, so this is going to go on for a long time. It is such a waste of time and energy for everyone."

Kasab is the only surviving gunman from the attack, which was blamed on the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
