Hollywood director Clint Eastwood has been talking about his new movie Hereafter, which stars Matt Damon.

The thriller is about three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways.

Bourne actor Matt Damon plays psychic medium George Lonegan, who sees his gift as a curse and tries to break free from those trying to reconnect with their passed loved ones.

So is there life after death? Damon said he hopes there is:

"I'd like it to keep going. But who knows what that looks like. You know, yeah, I'm hopeful that that means our decisions here count and how we are to other people matters and that the light doesn't just go off."

Meanwhile director Clint Eastwood said he is sceptical about whether psychic mediums can actually make contact with the dead:

"I don't know about that. Whether you can do that or not, I don't know. There's a lot of people probably who claim they can."

Hereafter also stars Belgian actress Cecile de France, as a journalist who has a near-death experience after being caught up in a tsunami, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Damon's potential love-interest Melanie.

Hereafter opens in UK cinemas in January.
