    Seven-Year-Old Leopard Rescued in Southern India

    Forest officials rescued a seven-year-old leopard trapped near a private tea estate in India's Coimbatore City on Thursday.

    Police arrested the manager of the tea estate for trapping wild animals.

    A forest official says locals tipped off forest officials about the trapped leopard.

    "The leopard was trapped and he was struggling for more than four to five hours. But thanks to our staff, forester, guard and ranger, they reached in time. Around 2:30 pm, the doctors also arrived here with us and have given treatment to the animal. After assessing the weight of the animal, there is a proper procedure for that and it is a male leopard.”

    Officials say strict actions will be taken against those involved in the matter.

    "The DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) is taking action to release inside the forest area and we will take very strong action in this regard. Already, the DFO has arrested some persons and further investigations will be going on and will not leave, whomsoever is involved in this. We will take very strong action against the person.”

    Locals also told officials that the tea estate manager has previously trapped other wild animals on his property, including wild pigs.
