Cameron faces sleepless night ahead of speech

8 years ago184 views

David Cameron looked every inch the proud father as he cradled daughter Florence in his arms, but acknowledged the six-week-old baby could mean he has a sleepless night before his big speech at the Conservative Party conference.

The Prime Minister met his wife Samantha and their daughter as they arrived at Birmingham's Moor Street station before carrying the baby into his hotel.

Casually dressed in an open-necked white shirt and black sweater, Mr Cameron smiled at photographers at the Hyatt Regency hotel next to the conference centre.

He admitted earlier to being "miserable" without his new daughter and could not wait to see her again although she may keep him awake before his first conference speech as Prime Minister on Tuesday.

Mr Cameron told ITV1's Daybreak: "I have obviously had three miserable nights here on my own without baby Florence crying in my ear, and I miss her like mad.

"She is coming today. I am picking Samantha up off the train with baby Florence and I can't wait to see her, because I expect even in three days she has probably changed a bit.

"So I am looking forward to a sleepless night tonight before my big speech."

Presenter Adrian Chiles joked that Mr Cameron had the perfect excuse to ask Samantha to deal with the baby if she cried during the night, by telling her: "I've got a country to run, you've got to get up."

But the Prime Minister responded with a laugh: "I have tried that one and you know what? It doesn't work."
