The expanding use of computers has led to changes in the nature of education in the 21st century. All spheres of education have been influenced by this phenomenon and there has been an increasing interest in the application of computers and computer-related technology in the classroom (Peterson, 2004). New teachers who have grown up with technology know how to use technology, but knowing how to use certain technological tools does not produce the necessary understanding for integrating technology into classroom use effectively (Mishra & Koehler, 2006). Teachers need to understand how a certain technology can be used and why in order to transform instruction in ways that allow students to better understand the subject matter (McCrory, 2006).
