London hip-hop artist Labrinth has spoken about being the first act, not to have featured on a talent show, to sign to Simon Cowell's record label in six years.
Labrinth is currently number 2 in the charts with his debut single "Let The Sun Shine" on Cowell's Syco label.
Having previously gained attention for collaborations with Tinie Tempah on hit singles "Pass Out" and "Frisky", Labrinth said his own single caused a stir with music industry insiders.
The star, whose real name is Timothy McKenzie, said: "I think Simon kind of heard a lot of noise about me...and Simon must have heard and then he was like, 'I need this boy!'"
Labrinth is said to be keen to act as a mentor to contestants on the X Factor.
