A pilot is in critical condition after his plane crashed at an airshow in Indonesia.

The two-seater, light Super Decathlon plane crashed to the ground and caught fire on Friday, during the show in West Java capital, Bandung. Only the pilot, Alexander Supeli was on board.

A colleague told Metro TV that Supeli is a senior pilot with more than 2,000 hours of flight experience, but said Supeli was flying too low.

Super Decathlon planes are primarily used for flight training and aerobatic exercises.

The Bandung Air Show, which opened on Thursday, is part of the 200th anniversary of the city. The airshow was suspended after the crash.
