A fierce gun battle between militants and Indian security forces in northern Jammu and Kashmir ended on Tuesday.
The battle lasted for over two days and nine militants were killed.
"Heavy exchange of fire between the terrorists and our troops continued for over two days, and finally it ceased late last evening. Nine terrorists who had very sophisticated navigational and communication equipment and were armed to the teeth, were eliminated by our troops in this operation."
He says troops recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions after the encounter.
"12 AK Rifles, 53 magazines, 1270 AK rounds, three pistols, eight magazines, 12 rounds, UBGLs, UBGL grenades and a host of other sophisticated communication and navigation equipment."
Indian intelligence officials say that infiltration attempts by Pakistan-based militant groups have increased since snow started melting on the high Himalayan Mountain passes.
