Still Alive

Young Guatemalans struggle to forgive their parents and themselves as they seek to break the cycle of violence inherited from a bloody civil war.

Guatemala’s violent civil war ended over twelve years ago. But more people are murdered daily now than ever as gang and drug culture has spread throughout the land. Still Alive, shot over six years is a powerful, intimate portrayal of young Guatemalans trying to escape their toxic childhood environments and seek a brighter future.

Determined to find a voice the two central characters, an ex-gang leader and the son of a death squad operative, join a street arts collective. But breaking the cycle of violence is not so simple: guilt, revenge and murder wreak havoc on the streets.
