Flights Cancelled in Southern Japan as Typhoon Passe
  • 14 years ago
In Japan, over a hundred flights and more cross-island ferries were canceled on Tuesday, as Typhoon Kompasu passed through Okinawa.

The category two typhoon is the seventh this season in the area... but the first to hit the southern prefecture this year... although it is not expected to cause any major damage.

Okinawa is regularly in the path of the seasonal typhoons and is usually well prepared to withstand them.

The islanders are always extra cautious with weather matters, canceling flights and ferry rides to and from the various ports and airports.

Kompasu is headed towards the eastern Chinese coastal areas by Wednesday, and the Japanese meteorological agency forecast it may even swerve to hit the South Korean capital, possibly after picking up power and upgrading to a category three.
