Jharkhand, India: Maoist Rebels Attack Government Building

Maoist rebels have bombed a state government building and attacked a police station in India's Jharkhand state. Police say that nearly 150 rebels carried out the attacks.
Maoist rebels bombed a state government building in India’s Jharkhand state on Thursday.
After blowing up the building, the armed rebels then attacked a local police station in the district.
Police retaliated by firing, but no casualties were reported.
According to police, about 150 Maoists carried out the attack. They also torched some trucks.
"We heard a blast here at night at 1:04 am. The situation was very dangerous. I cannot explain the situation, and it was two blasts, and the sound was deafening. I felt unsafe."
The rebels carried out the attacks to protest the arrest of two of their associates.
Police personnel nabbed the duo on Wednesday from Taratand village in a joint raid, after they received intelligence that a group of ultras was planning a massive attack in the area.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called the Maoists India's gravest internal security threat. Over 500 people have died this year alone in the violence, in an insurgency that has been simmering for four decades.
