As Guangdong Governor Visits Taiwan, Victims Recount Persecu

As Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua continues his trade tour in Taiwan, Falun Gong practitioners there have staged demonstrations along the way.

In northern Hsinchu city, one man hand delivered a copy of the complaint filed against Huang on Monday. It accuses him of committing crimes of genocide during the Chinese regime’s 11-year crackdown of the Falun Gong spiritual practice.

Huang later left amidst calls for him to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

Two Falun Gong practitioners and former Guangdong residents spoke about the abuses they suffered there.

The two women now live in Taiwan, but were visiting relatives in mainland China when they were arrested.

[Cheng Shihong, Persecution Victim]:
I was made to sit on a stool and watch videos slandering [Falun Gong] all day. If you refuse to give up your beliefs, they won’t let you go to the toilet or sleep. They treat you like this until you can no longer stand it.

[Cheng Xi, Persecution Victim]:
They had two other prisoners watch me for 24 hours. There was one person on each side of me, even when I was sleeping, eating, or going to the bathroom.

They say the public security officers who persecute Falun Gong practitioners use it as a way to advance in their careers.

[Cheng Shihong, Persecution Victim]:
They treat it as a ladder for climbing up in rank and to make a fortune, so they don’t hold back in persecuting Falun Gong [practitioners].

The two say that if it wasn’t for their Taiwanese passports, the abuses they suffered would have been much worse.

Taiwan Falun Gong practitioners say Huang Huahua, as Guangdong’s Governor, oversaw the systematic abuse of Falun Gong practitioners. They say they will continue to file complaints against Chinese officials who have committed human rights violations.
